Speakers are alright for the price, nothing spectacular. Went into the menu and shut off the internal speakers and now I can hear again when I turn on the Sony. Next time, I would pay a couple of extra dollars to get it from newegg with free shipping and it would be here in two days instead of almost two weeks. Speakers on my 32" Sony tv went out so I need to get a set of external speakers for it. Decided to get this model since I don't want something too big or loud because the set is in the bedroom. Side note: Ordered it on Monday morning with super saver shipping and didn't arrive until the following Thursday (almost two weeks).
Now, what to do with the rest of the cash. I had just been thinking of picking up some little speakers so we could listen to music from my laptop, so using that found cash to do it seemed a no brainer.Popped into the local stereo store and bought these only because they seemed like the right price and the size. They're not great, but much better than the built-in speakers on my Dell Vostro. We're staying in a vacation rental house in Tuscany and I had to clean the sheets from the previous user. I was moaning about having to do this, when a 50 euro bill fell out of the sheets. Turn the bass down, and they're really OK.
The overall volume is definitely below average and will take adjustments with your PC and source program. Some songs are un-listenable w/o major adjustments to the equalizer. To prevent songs from distorting, I've had to drop the 32hz freq to -12db and 64hz to -6db. Hip-hop, techno, or anything with a deep drum/bass beat, will tend to distort in the satellites. But for $27, I guess you get what you pay for. I didn't expect earth-shattering bass and amazing clarity, but the sound is really nothing special.
My source is my iTunes library. Some songs for reference:Young Jeezy - Put On: un-listenableFleetwood Mac - Landslide: AverageSilversun Pickups - Lazy Eye: Far too much midbassRed Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze: A hint of distortion If you don't set your expectations too high, you won't be too disappointed. Based on your music choices, the sound will range from adequate to poor. Likely they use passive, 6db/octave crossovers, which just aren't designed to roll those deeper frequencies off fast enough. Normal listening volume is about the max of the system before distortion sets in.
I gave them a shot at school and they just didn't cut it. If you want any kind of real sound wait a little longer put away a little more money and get the kind of sound that you deserve. I understand that these speakers are cheap and you can't really expect much from them but I've had 2.0 speakers that put out more sound than these. The sub is a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be and the sound quality is just not what I expected from a Logitech product.
If you're on a shoe string budget and just want some speakers that will be passable, these will most definitely do. At higher volumes you could start to hear it better. Out of the box I noticed the speakers are very well made and are easy on the eyes. At low volumes it was barely kicking at all with the bass knob on the back cranked to maximum. I expected to get at least as good or better sound from the system overall and was disappointed. Bottom line: If you don't like your music cranked up all the time and want to hear the bass at lower volumes, you may want to look elsewhere. After I plugged them in and fired them up, my enthusiasm began to walk away. However, the subwoofer was barely putting out anything it seemed.
The sub had a hard time handling songs with deep and low bass booms.Needless to say, I decided to put my old Creative sub back in with the new satellites and am quite pleased with the results. I would do some shopping around and see if you can find some displays that you can try out in this price range and compare. I bought these speakers as a replacement to a 4 year old Creative SBS330 system since one of the satellite speakers was beginning to short out. I noticed the satellites were much clearer than my previous system. The reason I make so many references to my old set of speakers is that they were a $20 set back in 2005, while these Logitechs are a tad bit more expensive and a lot newer.
